Grimmcore Studios has released the first chapter of The Return of Camazotz in vertical format as an exclusive release on GlobalComix. This release comes as we expand to new formats to get our horror comics in front of new horror fans all around the world.
The Return of Camazotz is a Gothic horror comic inspired by Mayan mythology that follows twin brothers as they struggle to survive the curse of the ancient Mayan vampire god, Camazotz! The first issue was released through Kickstarter in October 2023, and it’s gone on to be featured on multiple horror news media as an underground horror comics hit, including Daily Dead News, Dads from the Crypt, Bloody Essentials podcast, and Let’s Talk Terror.
The first issue of The Return of Camazotz was released digitally on GlobalComix in March 2024, and it quickly rose through the charts as one of the top 10 most popular horror comics on the platform the week it released. As of September 2024, the comic has reached 2.9K views, which inspired the company to try their hand at adapting the comic to a vertical scroll format exclusive to GlobalComix. Ivette Céspedes, a Cuban filmmaker and digital artist, was in charge of adapting The Return of Camazotz to the vertical scroll format.

We decided to release our vertical scroll comics exclusively on their platform because unlike other companies like Webtoons or Tapas that are trying to be more family-friendly, GlobalComix allows uncensored comics for adults in their platform as long as they are marked as such. We only publish 18+ horror comics, so we didn’t want to censor our books to publish on other platforms. The work that GlobalComix is doing is incredible and we’re excited to put out this adaptation of our first hit comic exclusively on their great platform.”
